To answer your question (and you seem to realize this yourself), no, Brunell will not be able to lead the Jets to wins should Sanchez get hurt.
I’m a lifelong Saints fan, and…having watched Brunell in the season finale last year and on a fake field goal he horribly botched in weel 13, the man is 100% done. No ill will against him (he was still a member of New Orleans’ first championship team), but I was stunned he didn’t retire after the Super Bowl.

Mostly I suppose it was his prediction and production in SB3 that put him there. He made the AFL credible.
