As I’ve said earlier here, authors absolutely love Amazon. It’s an addiction—you check and check and check, to make sure your rank is strong and to see what the online reviewers are saying. Today, I saw this review:

1.0 out of 5 stars Tabloid journalism at its best, September 16, 2008
By Catch22 (Chesapeake, VA) – See all my reviews

First of all, let me just say that I did not purchase this book nor do I have any intentions of doing so. Although I was excited about its release initially, through research and early reviews I have discovered that this is nothing more than a poor attempt to capitalize on the popularity of America’s team by exploiting the lies and rumors surrounding the Cowboys’ dynasty from the 90’s.

Admittedly, the ‘Boys were not without their problems, but many of the stories contained within are poorly researched and presented as fact, and unfortunately truth is overshadowed by tabloid speculation. Several prominent members of the Dallas Cowboys, including Emmitt Smith, declined to be interviewed for the book for what I suspect are those very reasons. In response author Jeff Pearlman took the mature route and cheapshotted Emmitt’s talent as an analyst on his personal blog.

Just so I get this straight—you slam my book, give it one star … and you haven’t even read it?
