There is bad taste, and there is terrible taste, and there is the above trailer for the new TV show, V.

“Where were you when JFK was assassinated?” it begins.

“Where were you on 9.11?”

Are you kidding me? Where was I on 9.11? I was driving through Manhattan, staring up at a burning hole in a building I’d just visited a few weeks before. I was watching the second plane hit. I was watching 3,000 of my fellow New York City residents die.

As a 12-year-old boy, I was a huge fan of the original V, which sorta scared the crap out of me. I wanted to watch this V, too, even though the previews look amateurish and the reviews have been terrible. But I can’t get past the comparisons to 9/11 and a fictional alien landing. I know more than eight years have passed. But to many of us, it’s still raw.

ABC should have known better.

  1. Jeff,

CTV in Canada runs that idiotic preview with the actor against the white backdrop during practically every commercial break during Sunday NFL games. It’s all I can do not to kick out a window.

  2. i reacted the same way. in fact, i had to rewind the dvr to make sure i had actually seen it correctly. i couldnt believe they compared an imaginary event to 9/11 and the kennedy assasination. dont they do focus groups for these shows?

and because this happened in the first 10 seconds of the show, i couldnt get that taste out of my mouth.
