My daughter Casey is a 6-year-old first grader. She has a nice life—takes ice skating and ballet, goes on a ton o’ play-dates, never has to worry about not having food on the table or goodies on her birthday. She’s a great kid, and I’m extremely proud of her. Extremely.

This holiday season, we decided that it’d be great for Casey to have a toy drive to provide gifts for kids in Westchester County, N.Y. who might not have presents for the holiday (For those here thinking, “Isn’t Westchester a pretty well-off place to live?” let me assure you there are many downtrodden among us.). Casey is excited about the idea, and is doing her all to get her friends and schoolmates to participate.

I would like to take this another step.

Below is Casey’s hand-written letter. Anyone here who donates an unwrapped gift to the cause will received an autographed copy of Boys Will Be Boys, my best-seller about the 1990s Dallas Cowboys.

On behalf of Casey, much thanks,

Jeff

PS: This is the letter my wife sent out:
Friends and Family,
We are all so fortunate to be able to provide our kids with toys for the holidays. I know my kids not only get from us, but from 3 sets of grandparents, some friends, aunts, cousins, etc. We are lucky. This year we want to teach our kids to be grateful for what we have by helping others who aren’t as fortunate. Casey is having a toy drive beginning now through mid December to provide gifts for kids in Westchester who might not have presents for the holidays. Please help Casey’s effort by buying any toy or book for a kid of any age. We would be happy to pick up from your home. In addition, feel free to forward this email to anyone you know to help the cause. Any child who wants to work with Casey on gathering and donating toys is welcome to join our toy drive.
