Why I Still Like Obama: II

Having watched more and more of President Obama’s speech (and Q&A session) with the GOP, I’m increasingly reminded of why I voted for him in the first place.

Seriously, think about it—when was the last time (if ever) a sitting president addressed the rival party at one of its events, then took questions? And did so on national TV? This wasn’t smooth or suave or cool. It wasn’t a made-for-prime-time sort of gig. I don’t think it scored the man many political points. Hell, some of the video is downright painful. But at a time of rough, rough, rough political waters, he went into enemy turf and absorbed some hits to the chin.

Bravo.

  1. Q: “when was the last time (if ever) a sitting president addressed the rival party at one of its events, then took questions? And did so on national TV?”, A: Every George W. press conference.

Just kidding (kind of) – actually, kudos to Obama. Nice first step.
