As regular readers of this blog know I’m an enormous Hall & Oates fan. I probably own about 50 H&O CDs, have seen them in concert about 10 times, know all the words to all the songs, etc … etc.
One thing that’s always fascinated me about the duo is the dynamic between the two. Or, to be more blunt, how Hall always seems like such an anus, and Oates a decent, nice guy. Throughout the years, Hall has always been the one with the cigarettes (though apparently he no longer smokes); the one wearing sunglasses inside; the one flipping his hair; the one talking about “me” more often than “us.” Oates, meanwhile, just hangs back and plays his guitar. Maybe oohs every now and then.
Anyhow, for the first time ever, Oates seems to be fighting back—mildly. Watch the above video. Watch Hall blather on forever and ever, as Oates appears to seethe.
