Oh, boy II

The reviews are starting to trickle in for Burlesque, the Christina Aguilera/Cher movie opening on Thanksgiving. I blogged recently how absolutely dreadful it looks, and it seems I’m probably right …

Thanks to Burlesque, we now have the answer to the question: “Which film ended the film careers of both Christina Aguilera and Cher?”

— Marshall Fine, Hollywood & Fine

There’s a chance you’ll like the film. Perhaps if you’re Christina Aguilera’s mom or the spirit of Sonny Bono reincarnated as a person who can tolerate awful movies.

— Phil Villarreal, OK! Magazine

I’m no movie reviewer … but this one’s gonna get ugly. Stay tuned.

  1. I don’t know who Marshall Fine and Phil Villarreal are, but the San Francisco Chronicle’s very well respected film critic, Mick LaSalle gave Burlesque a rave review.

I’m a bit dumbfounded, as Burlesque did not seem to be a film that LaSalle would enjoy, as he seems to be more of a connoisseur of French and arty films. I still probably won’t see Burlesque in the theater though. I’ll wait till it makes its basic cable premiere in two years.
