The Facebook Time Machine

Facebook is great.

Facebook is wonderful.

Facebook makes me feel old.

No? Am I wrong here? Whenever I skim through the photographs of long-lost friends, I can’t help but think, “How the hell did I get here? And where did time go?” It’s one thing when you have pals who you see regularly. You’re there for the gradual adjustments of time, and it doesn’t seem to soar past quite so rapidly. But Facebook is just—BOOM! Holy cow, look how old that guy got. Oh, wow, she really changed. It’s striking, and riveting, and amazing, and … and … and I sort of hate it.

But I’m also addicted.

On a completely unrelated note, I was thrilled to hear Josh Hamilton was named the AL MVP. It was very much deserved, and his comeback story from drug abuse is one for the ages. Appreciate this one–because I can’t imagine a better tale of retribution and recovery coming along … ever.

  1. Hamilton wasted ~7 years of his career due to drugs. Purely his own doing. It’s a great story and inspiring like you wrote…but damn – Joey Votto has a beast of a season, a near triple crown, and Josh Hamilton is the guy mentioned?
