  1. Good list. I would have Bowie and Bing at #1 though.

Every time I hear Bono sing “Well tonight, thank God it’s them instead of you!” just makes me cringe.

  2. I agree with Bex that I’d have Bowie and Bing at #1. I’ve also always liked the E Street Band’s version of Santa Claus is Coming to Town because it always looks and sounds like they are having a lot of fun.

Also like Sting’s haunting version of Gabriel’s message.

  3. “Do they know its Christmas?” always struck me as a remarkably noble, albeit unintentionally condescending and racist attempt at improving the human condition. I’m sure the 350 million African Christians know its Christmas. As for everyone else: Why should non-christian Africans be familiar with the liturgical calendar of European religions? Do self-important english pop stars know its Family Day?

  4. Jeff, I would have put Bing and David higher, too bad the audio wasn’t better. Great piece.

Darlene Love, and The Ronettes were both great. Lennon is a classic.
Both you and Jeff picked that Band Aid song, who were those kids anyway. 😉

I liked both versions of, “All I Want For Christmas Is You”.

Made me think about a couple of my favorite Christmas singers.
Natalie Cole singing with her late father, Nat:
