Jeff Francoeur is psyched!

I don’t make a habit of lifting entire passages from another person’s blogs, but I’m blown away by Jeff Francoeur’s (admittedly misplaced and misguided) excitement over becoming a member of the Kansas City Royals.

Kansas City, Here I Come!

Hi Guys,

I am extremely excited about my new opportunity with the Royals. I want to give thanks to Dayton Moore and the Royals for giving me the opportunity to continue the path I wanted to follow. I am excited that I will once again be the everyday Right Fielder, and I plan to have my best year in 2011. I know there were other offers out there, and I know some of you might have felt those offers were more appealing. However, I know what I am capable of and this is where I need to be in order to show that. I turn 27 next month, and I plan on having a long career in baseball. I look forward to the spring and getting acquainted with all my new teammates and coaches.

I am also looking forward to Christmas, which is somehow already right around the corner. I have been busy with the Winter Meetings and with the Royals, so it will be nice to relax for a couple more weeks with family and close friends. I hope all of you have a great holiday season as well as a Happy New Year!

Take care and thank you for all of your support.

………

Best,
Jeff

Keep in mind, thus far Francoeur has played for Bobby Cox, an all-time great manager; the Mets, who play in New York; and the Rangers during their World Series year.

K.C. in the midst of a youth movement? Meh.

  1. I don’t know, I read some level of humility in his post. I think he knows he hasn’t been great and is excited about playing everyday somewhere/anywhere.

  2. I’m with the two above. I like the optimism. Not sure if there were better offers though. This guy has a terrible OBP and swings at everything! As a Royals fan, I hope Jeff is right and has a great year. He appears to be a decent guy.

  3. Francoeur will be “extremely excited” until he is benched by the Royals mid-season, and then sent down to the AAA affiliate. Then, he’ll cry like a baby just like when he was in Atlanta.
