Bad News For Palin

Every couple of days or so CNN.com posts a headline reading something like PALIN IN TROUBLE or POLL SPELLS DOOM FOR PALIN.

Today’s is: BAD NEWS FOR PALIN

So what’s the bad news? Did her gun get stolen? Is she pregnant with baby No. 73?

No. According to the latest poll, Barack Obama and Sarah Palin are “going in different directions.”

Says the piece: “According to a CNN/Opinion Research Corporation survey released Tuesday, 78 percent of Democrats questioned in the poll say they want to see Obama at the top of their party’s ticket in 2012, with only 19 percent saying they would prefer someone else as the Democratic presidential nominee. The 19 percent figure is the lowest figure since March, when the question was first asked.”

Look, I love hearing any bad news for Sarah Palin (not death or anything, of course), because I can’t stand her. But a poll taken, ahem, two years before an election that probably won’t happen is ludicrous. It actually represents something I loathe about the mainstream media’s political coverage, which is the whole catch-a-wave-and-go-with-it approach to reporting. Were this poll taken a week before the election—sure, it’s bad news. But now, in December 2010, it’s utterly meaningless. Obama is on an upswing because he had, unambiguously, a couple of HUGE weeks. In the future, he’ll have many shitty weeks, too. And the polls will change. And change again. And change again again.

It’s meaningless.

  1. Political polls are ludicrous? Next you’ll be trying to convince us that preseason polls in college football aren’t always an accurate representation of how the season will play out. I don’t know what to believe anymore.

I feel you pain Jeff… love the blog, keep up the good work.

  2. Why do you hate S. Palin?
    Because she’s a normal person?
    A mother?
Has a religious/morale compass she lives by?
Is monogomous and apparently faithful for how many years?
    Has a pretty normal family?
Believes in adhering to the Constitution’s original intent?
Eats meat, and (God forbid!) harvests her own meat on occasion?

Or, is it that she’s not a Hahvahd grad and isn’t erudite enough on camera for you.

Mayhaps you’re old enough to remember when Reagan ran against Mondale? The Dems’ diatribe that he wasn’t cerebral enough didn’t keep him from pulling about 530 electoral votes. ANY off the street, normal (read non academic), American with half a lick of common sense and some real principles would be better in the white house than the academic “uber man” we have in their now!

  3. BAD NEWS FOR PALIN! I see this every few days on cnn.com. they are obsessed with her or using her to get ratings. think about it, liberal or left leaning cnn readers want to hear bad news about palin. this is why its the most repetitive link title they use. no i haven’t verified that – the internet archives don’t do 2011 yet, so I can’t do an analysis. but i did google “bad news for palin” and “cnn” and your site came up! i’m not for or against palin, i just see how cnn a) is biased against palin and b) is overtly using their platform to “create” the news.
