(Barista) Training Day


As I write this I’m sitting at the counter in my nearby Starbucks, watching a veteran barista train a new barista.

They’re two young women, both friendly and warm. The dialogue was going back and forth, and then I heard what must be my all-time favorite exchange:

New Barista: “What’s that?”

Old Barista: “It’s our multi-regional blend.”

New Barista: “Oh.”

Old Barista: “That means it’s from different places.”
