The search for great coffee shops is, inadvertently, my life’s work.
I mean, yes, I’m a writer. But I’m a writer who spends a ridiculous amount of time in cafes, and I’m always seeking out the next cool, funky, friendly place to plop my laptop and get to work.
Today’s stop: Fox Coffee House in Long Beach.
To begin—I absolutely love this place. Chill vibe. Friendly owner with colorful Tatts up and down her arm. Free wifi. Menu featuring bagel sandwiches, salads and pastries. A unique wall mural and a living room sorta feel. It’s the closest thing I’ve discovered to my beloved Freight House Cafe back in my hometown of Mahopac, N.Y.—only its larger, and there are a slew of ceiling fans.
I ordered an iced decaf coffee, and it was perfect. But, truly, the taste of beverages isn’t what does it for me when it comes to work spaces. I want shops that feel simultaneously relaxing and inspired; that make me want to write, but don’t make me feel as if I’m working. I don’t want to feel rushed or pressured, but the vibe makes me want to support the endeavor.
This joint has all that.
