My daughter Casey has been extremely sensitive of late. She’s 6-years old, and she loves school. Yet over the past few days, upon preparing to leave , she starts sobbing—”But … but … but—I’m going to miss you.” It’s very sweet and adorable, and it can make a dad feel like he’s the most important person in the world.
Today, however, Casey’s emotions reached a new level. We were driving, and she stared down at her big toe, where a small wart has grown. The wife took her to the skin doctor the other day, who told Casey that, with a little medicine, the wart will vanish.
As we were driving along tonight, I heard Casey start to whimper. “What’s wrong, Case?” I asked.
“My wart,” she said, sobbing.
“It hurts?”
“No,” she said. “I’m going to miss it.”
