Hopefully some of you have noticed by now that today marks a serious jeffpearlman.com upgrade.
First and foremost, I ask patience.
There are kinks to work out, but we’re getting there. If some of the site looks funky, and you’ve come here a lot over the years, clear the HISTORY on your browser and try again. Oddly, that’s an issue. Happened to me.
As most of you know, on October 4, 2011 my newest book, Sweetness: The Enigmatic Life of Walter Payton, hits shelves. I’ve been working on this project for more than 2 1/2 years. Never have I put more into a book, and never have I been more proud of a book. Nearly 700 interviews. Thousands upon thousands of articles. Books atop books atop books. At the very beginning of each project, I make it my goal to know everything about the topic. It’s an impossible desire, but this is—I believe—as close as I’ve ever gotten.
So do me a favor. Look around. Check things out. Explore. I especially dig the Walter Payton Museum and, within that, the really cool Music of Walter Payton section designed by Meghan Scott. There’s also a pretty unique photo gallery, loaded with images most people—including Walter’s family and friends, I’m guessing—have never seen. Also, if you dig DJ White Owl’s Sweetness, please head over to the Watch the Trailer page and download it for free. It’d be my honor.
Lastly, below is the amazing eulogy Eddie Payton gave at Walter’s memorial service. I’m not sure if it’s ever been shown before. I found it last night on an old VHS tape. It’s an absolutely beautiful, pitch-perfect speech for a beautiful, pitch-perfect man.
Please let me know what you think.
And thanks for being here …
