Back not that long ago, I probably would have read the news about Ralph Northam, Virginia’s governor, and been standing alongside those calling for his resignation.
Should, technically, the man step aside? Maybe. But 2019 is a new animal, and as one Virginia Republican after another Virginia Republican after another Virginia Republican demands Northam (a Democrat) step aside, I’d like to know where their voices were when Donald Trump blamed the Charlottesville nightmare on both sides. I would like to know where their voices were (hell, are) as the GOP continues its Virginia fight to restrict the impact of the African-American vote via messed-up redistricting. I would like to know how they feel about this image, of one of their leaders …
I would like to know how they feel about Donald Trump boasting of grabbing women “by the pussy.”
I would like to know how they feel about national gerrymandering efforts. About Ron DeSantis, now Florida’s governor, accepting money from a man who referred to Barack Obama as “a n—–.” About Brian Kemp, now Georgia’s governor, doing everything within his power to suppress the African-American vote.
So, no, I don’t want Ralph Northam to resign.
I want him to stand firm, show that he’s changed his ways and spit in the face of the hypocrisy of the GOP.
