Am I supposed to be happy about North Korea?

Am I supposed to be happy about Donald Trump meeting with Kim Jong Un?

Am I supposed to set aside my loathing of America’s 45th president?

Am I supposed to praise a man who, a day earlier, left our greatest international allies dumbfounded and deflated?

Am I supposed to forget that he devoted five years to insisting the nation’s first African-American president was a Kenyan-born Muslim?

Am I supposed to forget the way he mocked John McCain for being a captured POW?

Am I supposed to overlook everything that’s happening in America right now? Like this? And this? And this? And this? And 1,000 other awful things?

Am I supposed to overlook our nation’s new callousness? Our nation’s new indifference to suffering? Our nation’s heartlessness?

Am I supposed to cheer because Donald Trump—ignoramus and proud of it—gave legitimacy to a man-child known for killing his own people? Am I supposed to stand and applaud as my nation melts away?

Am I?

Fuck, no.
