A preview of tonight’s Oval Office address

In a few moments, Donald Trump will sit behind his desk at the Oval Office and explain to the nation why we need to allocate $5 billion for a border wall.

I would like to note something. Three days ago, Trump said, off the wall and his presidential predecessors: “This should have been done by all of the presidents that preceded me, and they all know it. Some of them have told me that we should have done it.”

This was checked. Barack Obama never told Trump that. George W. Bush never told Trump that. Bill Clinton never told Trump that. Jimmy Carter never told Trump that. And George H. W. Bush never actually had any conversation with Trump.

It was a lie. And not merely a lie. A weird, Trumpian lie, one that could be (and was) checked.

So, again, in a few moments Donald Trump will sit behind his desk at the Oval Office and explain to the nation why we need to allocate $5 billion for a border wall.

There is no reason to believe anything he says.
